2006 Lithuanian football championship is ready to start - clubs have received licenses to participate in the national competition and the schedule for the new season has been approved, according to which the "A League" will start on April 9 and conclude in mid-November.

In the first round of the championship, teams will face each other based on their positions in the previous season - Panevezys "Ekranas" will start the match against Kedainiai "Nevėžis", vice-champion "Kaunas" will play against "Šiauliai", bronze medalist Marijampole "Sūduva" will compete against Vilnius "Žalgiris", fourth-placed Vilnius "Vėtra" will meet Klaipėda "Atlantas", and in the middle of the standings, "Vilnius" and "Šilutė" will face each other.

Just like last year, the "A League" will have 36 rounds played in 4 rounds. The championship lasting for eight months will proceed without major breaks, with possibly the fewest matches happening in July when the strongest Lithuanian clubs will participate in European tournaments.

The first clash between championship favorites "Ekranas" and "Kaunas" will take place in Panevezys on May 21, and the final match of the championship is scheduled for November 21. The LFF Cup final will be held on October 21, while the "A League" stars day, which debuted last year, will take place on August 27.
