Marijampolė finally found a player who will replace the former team's attacking leader Tom Radzinevičius, who went to the Czech Republic - experienced forward A. Fomenka, who finished last season in third place in the "A Lyga", signed a contract with the club.
29-year-old A. Fomenka started his football career 13 years ago in his native Panevėžys team "Ekransas", and after spending three years there, he moved to Šiauliai's team "Kareda". With his productive game, the forward helped "Kareda" become the Lithuanian champion twice in a row and establish itself among the strongest clubs in the country.
In 2000, A. Fomenka moved to Russia and after not settling in at Moscow's "Spartak" club, he transferred to Rostov's "Rostselmash", where he represented the team for three years. Later, the Lithuanian played for some time in Astrakhan's "Volgar-Gazprom", and in 2004 his path led to Kazakhstan - there, A. Fomenka initially played for Aktobe's "Lento", while he spent the last two seasons at Almaty's "Kairat" club.
In the Lithuanian national team, A. Fomenka played 23 matches and scored 7 goals. In the "Sūduva" team, the experienced forward became the fourth newcomer - during the off-season, Marijampolė's team was already bolstered by Tom Mikuckis and Karolis Jasaitis, who moved from "Žalgiris", and former "Šilutė" player Tomas Miklinevičius.
