It is reported that Carlo Ancelotti has extended his contract with AC for another year and will remain at the helm of this Serie A team at least until June 2008. This news dispelled any rumors about a possible coach transfer to Real Madrid.
Ancelotti's contract was set to expire next June and the free agent strategist had been actively considering the Royal club. However, Real failed to attract the current Milan and former Juventus coach, who will stay at the San Siro stadium for some time.
"I have extended my contract until 2008 and I am very happy," Ancelotti told the Italian newspaper "Gazzetta dello Sport."
"I wanted to stay here. I received an attractive offer from Real Madrid, but I'm staying here," added the famous coach, who joined the Milan team in 2001 and helped them win the Champions League trophy in 2003 and the Italian champions title in 2004.
Last season, Milan ended up without titles - the club reached the Champions League final and finished second in the Italian league.
"The contract was renewed and signed for many reasons, but one of them was the desire to end the endless discussions in the press about Ancelotti leaving for Real," said Milan vice president Adriano Galliani. - "Over the past five years with Carlo, we have become the strongest club in Europe. He is the coach we need. He has done a good job and will continue it successfully."
Currently, Milan is in second place in the Italian league and has reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League, where they will face the strongest French team Lyon.
