Edinburgh and Scotland national team goalkeeper Craig Gordon has decided to stay in his hometown and over the weekend put pen to paper on a contract with the "Lithuanian" club occupying second place in the Premier League - the player's new contract will be valid until 2009.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper's previous contract was set to expire in 2007, but after impressive performances this season, "Hearts" have finally secured the services of one of the most promising goalkeepers in Great Britain for another two years.
"This is fantastic news for everyone at the club. It once again shows that the club's goal is to keep all its best players and strengthen with new ones. It is clear that Craig is a very important part of our team, and therefore this day should be wonderful for Hearts fans," said a representative of the Edinburgh club.
The player, who has recently established himself in the Scotland national team, also expressed his joy at the extended contract: "As you can imagine, I am very happy about it, as I am an Edinburgh boy and a Hearts fan. This is where I wanted to play football. I am focused on the main goal - to win trophies and achieve victories with Hearts. I quickly agreed with Mr. Romanov, and his desire to keep me meant that the whole process was not drawn out."
