French coach Gerard Houllier has denied recent rumors in the press that he will take over the position of England national team coach vacated by Sven-Goran Eriksson after this summer's World Cup.
Preparing for the UEFA Champions League quarter-final match against AC Milan, Houllier categorically stated that he does not even consider the possibility of taking on the role of England national team coach, as he is satisfied in Lyon and has no intention of changing jobs.
"It is absolutely untrue," Houllier denied the rumors. "I have no intention of coaching the England team and I believe that this position should be held by an English football specialist."
"Despite my sympathies for Liverpool (his former club), England will always remain my second home, but I am very happy in Lyon and I will say again that I believe the England national team should be coached by an Englishman."
Current longtime England national team coach, Swedish Sven-Goran Eriksson, had previously announced that this World Cup will be his last tournament at the helm of the England team. Recently, the Swedish specialist has been linked to the search for a new coach at the royal Madrid Real club.
