One of the heroes of the 1999 UEFA Champions League final, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, will continue his career in England - the 33-year-old Norwegian has extended his contract with for another two years, and if after that he should join the club's coaching staff.
The experienced striker has spent the last three seasons out due to a serious knee injury. Recently returned to "Man Utd"'s reserve team, the footballer broke his cheekbone and it is not clear yet if he will recover by the end of the season.
Nevertheless, "Man Utd" has decided to extend the contract that was supposed to end this summer. However, it is believed that there is a clause in it, according to which O.G. Solskjaer will not receive a salary if he does not start playing.
"The past years have been extremely difficult for me, but in the upcoming seasons I intend to prove my worth," - said the Norwegian. - "I have always felt at home in Manchester and I wanted to repay the loyalty to the fans and to Sir Alex."
Speaking about future coaching work, O.G. Solskjaer said: "Although my priority is still playing on the field, I am also looking forward to the opportunity given by the "Man Utd" team to test myself in a coaching role."
The Norwegian arrived at "Man Utd" in 1996 from his native country's team "Molde" and represented the "Red Devils" in 376 matches over nine years, scoring 147 goals.
"Man Utd" also announced on Friday that they will not extend the contract with the 28-year-old injured midfielder Quinton Fortune, which expires this summer. In the near future, the former team's legionnaire from South Africa will start looking for a new club.
