ormer Real Madrid defender Aitor Karanka has reached an agreement with the Colorado Rapids club and from the following season will play in the MLS league in the United States.

The 32-year-old defender started his career at Athletic Bilbao and moved to Real in 1997. He was a member of the team that defeated Valencia in the UEFA Champions League final in 2000 and won the Spanish championship the following season.

In 2002, A. Karanka returned to Athletic, but since then he has been plagued by injuries.

"I spent some great and memorable years in this club," the Basque was quoted by the Spanish sports newspaper "AS" on Saturday. "It is very difficult to say goodbye to a club that has given me so much, that has changed me both as a player and as a person.
