The goalkeeper of the French national team, Fabien Barthez, continues to remain in the team - the player has signed a two-year contract and will stay at the club until 2006.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper arrived at the Marseille club from a club that decided to loan the player to the French club until the end of the season. Later, an English club terminated the contract with the goalkeeper.
The president of the Marseille team, Christophe Bouchet, stated, "The player has demonstrated that he is still one of the best goalkeepers in the world, which is why a contract was signed with him."
The goalkeeper himself is satisfied with the new contract: "I have been playing for 13 years. I know that I will like it in the Marseille team. I came here because it is a great club. I hope to finish my career here."
