Soon, already next Sunday, the 2006 Lithuanian football championship "A-League" should begin. Just like last year, ten teams will participate: Panevėžys "Ekranas", Kaunas FBK "Kaunas", Marijampolė "Sūduva", Vilnius "Vėtra", Vilnius "Vilnius", Šilutė "Šilutė", Klaipėda "Atlantas", Vilnius "Žalgiris", Šiauliai "Šiauliai" and Kėdainiai "Nevėžis".
The newspaper "Kauno diena" inquired about the moods with which the teams are approaching the new season.
Vice-champions goals - maximums
"Our goals are set high - to win the gold medals of the Lithuanian championship, the LFF Cup, to perform honorably in the UEFA Cup tournament. We are capable of achieving all the goals. We will demand good results from the players.
During the matches, any "Kaunas" player can become a torch, igniting the team. Today it may be one player, tomorrow - another. I see many talented guys. We will strive to promote attacking, visually pleasing football," said the head coach of the team, Eduardas Malofejevas, to "Kauno diena".
A well-known strategist started training the Kaunas team in the middle of December last year, when the players gathered for their first training after the holidays.
"The team is well prepared for the season, played many friendly matches, achieved decent results. I am satisfied with the team's preparation.
The famous football specialist E. Malofejevas started working with Kaunas, who has previously coached the USSR national team.
E. Malofejevas faces significant challenges, but he is an excellent coach capable of achieving them. There are many promising young men in the team. I think the experience of the head coach and the enthusiasm of the young players allows us to expect the desired result," said the president of Kaunas Football Club, Gintaras Ugianskis.
