Less than two weeks left until the postponed start of the season, Lithuanian "A Lyga" clubs continue to strengthen. After finishing in ninth place in the Lithuanian championship last season, "Šiauliai" invited two footballers from Russia for a trial: 18-year-old forward Stanislav Zhukov and 24-year-old defender Konstantin Zemskov.
Konstantin Zemskov, who plays in the right defensive flank, has previously represented clubs such as "Avtomobilist" of Moscow Oblast, "Baltika-Tripo" of Kaliningrad, and "Spartak" of Kostroma (Russia).
According to coach S. Vertelis, if all documents are sorted out, the Russian player should significantly strengthen the defense line.
"We were looking for such a player. Konstantin is fast, physically strong, good with his head, and executes long passes accurately," - S. Vertelis didn't spare kind words.
Meanwhile, 18-year-old S. Zhukov is a product of the Samara football school, scoring more than 80 goals in district and city competitions last season.
According to the coach of the "Šiauliai" team, if the young forward joins the team, he will have to earn his place in the main squad.
Currently, "Šiauliai" has eight foreigners in the team, including Nigerian goalkeeper Amaro Atigbiolaye, Ukrainians Vadim Tarasov and brothers Sergei and Ilya Galyuzo, Belarusian Viktor Afanasenko, and Latvian goalkeeper Ingus Lukovics.
Furthermore, "Šiauliai" has changed the team logo before the upcoming season: the previous joint logo of the Šiauliai football and basketball clubs was replaced by the emblem of the football club alone.
