The leaders of the French Football League announced that they took away a point from the teams of Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille, earned during a controversial match between these clubs last month.
A match that took place in Paris in early February became scandalous after Marseille's management, citing inadequate security of their team's fans and PSG's refusal to guarantee it, requested that the match not take place. Furthermore, Marseille sent their youth team to Paris, which unexpectedly managed to play to a draw.
After these matches, the president of PSG publicly apologized to the team's fans, while representatives of Marseille did not hide their joy for earning a point. However, the French Football League leadership decided that such behavior by the teams tarnishes the championship's reputation and punished both teams by taking away a point each.
This penalty had little impact on the standings - Marseille remained in 7th place with 51 points, while Paris Saint-Germain, with 49 points, still held 8th place.
