As announced by the Russian Football Federation on Wednesday, Dutchman Guus Hiddink will take over the reins of the Russian national team after the World Cup in Germany ends on July 9.
The 59-year-old coach reached the semifinals in the last two World Cups with the national teams of the Netherlands and South Korea, and this year he will lead the Australian team in the World Cup.
Hiddink had previously announced his intentions to leave his post as coach of the Australian national team after the World Cup and also a similar position at the Eindhoven "PSV" club, which defended their Dutch champions title last weekend.
Russia failed to qualify for the World Cup starting on June 9 in Germany, while Australia will participate in the tournament after a 32-year break.
The Russian Football Federation stated that Hiddink has agreed to sign a one-and-a-half-year contract worth around two million euros. According to the federation's announcement, if both parties are satisfied with the conditions, the contract could be extended until 2010. The Dutchman is expected to sign the contract after flying to Moscow on Friday.
