On Sunday, two more matches of the 34th round were played in the English Premier League.
The "Liverpool" club won their seventh consecutive victory, defeating the eleventh-placed "Blackburn" team away with a minimal result of 1-0. The only goal for the winners was scored by Robbie Fowler, who demonstrated excellent athletic form.
At the beginning of the match, neither team created any significant chances to score. However, in the 29th minute, the visitors took the lead when, after the referee decided not to call an offside on Djibril Cisse following a pass from Fernando Morientes, R. Fowler calmly put the ball into the net. After that, the hosts tried to attack, but their goal was reliably guarded by Jose Reina.
In the second half, the situation was similar, as "Blackburn" tried to equalize the score but could not overcome the dense and solid defense of "Liverpool." Perhaps the best chance to score a goal at the end of the match was missed by Liverpool's striker D. Cisse, whose shot hit the crossbar.
After this victory, "Liverpool" maintained theoretical hopes in the battle for the 2nd place, with "Man Utd" team leading Rafa Benitez's players by three points and having a match in hand. Meanwhile, "Blackburn" remains in sixth place, trailing "Arsenal" team above them by also three points.
The hero of the Birmingham derby was the Czech Milan Baros, whose leadership helped the "Aston Villa" team at home to defeat the "Birmingham" team in the relegation zone by 3-1. Despite the goals from the Czech mentioned above and one from the defender Gary Cahill, the "Blues" could only respond with a single accurate shot from Chris Sutton.
