35th tour: "Rennes" winning streak ended in Nice © EuroFootball.com

Over the weekend, the 35th round of the French football championship "Ligue 1" took place, after which it became clear that the champions' title for the fifth consecutive year was won by the "Lyon" club.

It became clear on Saturday, when "Bordeaux" - the only club that could still challenge "Lyon" - lost 3-2 to "Lille" and lost any chance of taking the first place.

Nevertheless, as it later turned out, even in the event of a victory for "Bordeaux", "Lyon" would have secured the first place this weekend, as on Sunday in the central match of the round, they managed to beat "P.S.G" 1-0. After this defeat, "P.S.G" remains in eighth place on the leaderboard and no longer has any chance of entering the UEFA Champions League tournament.

After winning eight consecutive games, somewhat unexpectedly on Sunday, the fourth-placed "Rennes" club suffered a defeat to "Nice" with a score of 2-1. At the very beginning of the match, David Bellion put "Nice" ahead, but in the last minute of the first half, John Utaka managed to equalize the score. However, in the final seconds of the match, Jacques Abardonado secured the victory for Nice.

A true goal rain poured at the Marseille Stade Velodrome stadium on Saturday, where the home team "Marseille" scored six unanswered goals and crushed the "Nancy" eleven. Mamadou Niang and Mickael Pagis each scored two goals for the winners. After this victory, "Marseille" moved up to fifth place and still has at least theoretical chances to compete for a spot in the next season's UEFA Champions League.

Gradually, the teams that will most likely play in the "Ligue 2" championship next season are becoming clearer. These are "Metz," "Ajaccio," and "Strasbourg," occupying the last three places and trailing the 17th-placed "Troyes" club by 9, 8, and 7 points respectively. These teams will likely be replaced by "Valenciannes," "Sedan," and "Lorient" in "Ligue 1."
