Madrid's sports director Benito Floro proposed to club president Fernando Martin to acquire Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, Inter Milan forward Adriano, and appoint the new coach Bernd Schuster.
B.Floro, who replaced Arrigo Sacchi in this position in December, stated that he presented these proposals to F.Martin and the club's board.
"As a priority, I proposed to acquire a powerful center forward like Adriano and a high-level midfielder if Zinedine Zidane decides to leave the club," B.Floro told radio station "Cadena Ser."
"S.Gerrard is on the list of desired players. In addition, the club had previously wanted to sign him," the Spaniard said.
33-year-old Z.Zidane had previously stated that he may end his career after this year's World Cup, although his contract with Real Madrid is valid until June 2007.
Earlier, F.Martin named seven candidates for the position of Real Madrid coach, which is currently held temporarily by Juan Ramon Lopez Caro.
B.Floro stated that he offered F.Martin another option - former Real Madrid and German national team midfielder B.Schuster, who is currently coaching the modest budget Getafe club in Madrid.
"Schuster is on the list of desired coaches because, if Lopez Caro no longer coaches, the ideal option would be a player who knows Spanish football well," B.Floro said. "In addition, he strives to play the type of football we would like to see at Real Madrid."
