Captain and England national team defender Steven Gerrard was named the best player of the year by the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) on Sunday.
Manchester United's attacking leader W. Rooney was named the best young player for the second year in a row.
The young England national team forward also contended for the best player of the year title. Other contenders for this title included T. Henry and the trio from "Chelsea" - Joe Cole, Frank Lampard, and John Terry.
In these elections, each player had two votes - one for the best player of the year and one for the best young player of the year.
S.Gerrard himself revealed to journalists that he voted for Thierry Henry and Wayne Rooney.
Last year, the title was won by J.Terry, the captain and defender of London's "Chelsea", and two years before that, the star of London's "Arsenal", T. Henry, triumphed.
According to the voting, the "Premiership" team of the year was also selected, which includes four players from "Chelsea".
