London defender Ashley Cole must prove that he has regained his form after injury if he wants to play for the England national team in the World Cup.
In the past six months, Ashley Cole has played only once, but now his physical condition is good and he should already appear in the Premier League matches between Arsenal and Sunderland clubs.
"Seeing Cole returning is very joyful," said England's head coach Sven-Goran Eriksson.
The Swede also added, "I saw him playing in reserve matches last week and he looked really good. Of course, he did not play in the match against Villarreal, but I hope he will still play. Arsenal have three more matches to play in the Premier League and I hope he will appear in at least one of them. It would be great. It would be terrible if he didn't play and I had to leave him out because at the moment he is considered one of the best defenders in the world."
Sven-Goran Eriksson is also worried about the injured Tottenham players Jermaine Jenas and Ledley King, as well as Newcastle forward Michael Owen, who is still recovering from an injury.
