On Wednesday, the 4th round of the Latvian "Virsliga" championship was very successful for the "Lithuanian" Liepaja club - the country's champions trained by Benjaminas Zelkevicius crushed the league's outsider, Rezekne's "Dizvanagi" club, with a score of 6-1, with three goals scored by the recently debuted Lithuanian national team defender.

23-year-old D. Miceika, who trained with another Latvian club, "Ventspils," before the season, but was convinced by B. Zelkevicius to stay in his team, scored goals in the 6th and 9th minutes in the match against "Dizvanagi" at home, adding another goal in the 69th minute to solidify their six-goal lead, which was reduced by the visitors in the 81st minute.

Along with D. Miceika, three more Lithuanians belonging to the club played in the team of Liepaja - defender Tomas Tamosauskas, who played the whole match, another defender Mindaugas Kalonas who was substituted after the first half, and forward Nerijus Astrauskas who entered the field immediately after the break.

Despite the crushing victory, "Metalurgs" is 8 points behind the "Ventspils" club, which has two more points, as the Liepaja team lost points by playing a draw against Riga's "Skonto" and the league newcomers "Ditton". B. Zelkevicius' students achieved their first win of the season in the 2nd round, when D. Miceika secured the victory with a goal in the 88th minute, resulting in a 3-2 win.

In the upcoming 5th round, which will take place on Sunday, "Metalurgs" faces a crucial match away against "Ventspils". It's worth noting that there are 8 teams in the top Latvian league, and last season it was "Metalurgs" that ended Riga's "Skonto" dominance in the championship after 14 consecutive years.
