Yesterday the chief executive of the English Football Association, Brian Barwick, and lawyer Simon Johnson flew to Lisbon for a meeting with Brazilian Luiz Felipe Scolari. The coach was offered to train the England national team.
This decision was made after English strategies Steve McClaren, Sam Allardyce, and Alan Curbishley rejected the offers. Although the FA's resident Howard Wilkinson wanted an Englishman to become the head coach, it seems that there are not many options left now.
Currently, Luiz Felipe Scolari is still the head coach of the Portuguese national team and will lead them in the World Cup.
In 2002, L.F. Scolari led the Brazilian national team to the World Championship title, in 2004 to the final of the European Championship with Portugal, and also won the South American and Libertadores cups twice.
It is believed that the offer to the Brazilian would reach 3 million pounds per year, which is much higher than what the coach currently earns.
