French national team and Arsenal striker Thierry Henry has been named the best footballer of the year in England by the Football Writers' Association (FWA) for the third consecutive year.

The 28-year-old T. Henry became the first player to win this award for the third time in the 59-year history of the FWA awards. Last year, the best player was Chelsea defender Frank Lampard, while the Frenchman won in 2003 and 2004.

This season, Henry scored 31 goals and surpassed Ian Wright to become Arsenal's all-time leading goalscorer. He also helped the "Gunners" reach the Champions League final for the first time, where on May 17th in Paris, the London team will face Barcelona.

Arsenal's captain will receive his award at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on May 11th. Second in the voting was Chelsea defender John Terry, third was young Man Utd star Wayne Rooney, and fourth was Liverpool defender Steven Gerrard, who was named the best player in the players' vote.
