Long-time head coach of the London team Alan Curbishley will leave his position as a team strategist after this season.
A. Curbishley has been leading the team since 1991. The Englishman led the South London team to the "Premiership" matches twice and later managed to establish a strong middle ground.
"This year marks our seventh successful season in the world's strongest league," says team president Richard Murray. "The man behind this success is Alan, and he deserves our respect. Yesterday (Friday), I sat down with him to discuss plans. He was as open as he has been for all these 15 years and said he will not renew his contract. We both agreed that Alan will leave after this season. In my opinion, Alan is the best coach that 'Charlton' has ever had."
About leaving the team, A. Curbishley mentioned it three weeks ago. "I have to ask myself what I'm doing here," he said at the time. "If I'm here next summer, we'll be at a crossroads," he said, not hiding the fact that he would like to become the coach of the England national team after this World Cup. The coach is listed as a possible candidate to replace Sven-Goran Eriksson."
