Team captain and second goalkeeper of the German national team Oliver Kahn will end his career in 2 years, when his contract with the Munich team expires, which he extended at the end of last year.
"After this year's World Cup, I will play for another two years in the Munich "Bayern" team, and then this stage of my life will be over," says O. Kahn to a German magazine. "I will end this stage of my life not by retiring, but by leaving with my head held high, accepting the situation as it is."
36-year-old O. Kahn will for the first time in his career have to settle for the role of second goalkeeper. The coach of the German national team, Jurgen Klinsmann, decided a few weeks ago that his starting goalkeeper at the World Cup will no longer be O. Kahn, but his peer Jens Lehmann.
"If the coaches think they need me there, I will be there," says the goalkeeper.
