For the second time in its history, the Czech champion title was won by the Liberec club, whose ranks include the Lithuanian national team striker - on Saturday, the leaders of the "Gambrinus" league finished their 28th round match against Most's "Siad" with a 1-1 draw, which was enough for the team to become unbeatable.
Before the match, "Slovan" had a nine-point lead over the second-placed "Mlada Boleslav" and catching up with the opponent only left theoretical possibilities. In the match against "Siad," Liberec club was led forward by striker Jan Blazek, and although Horst Sieglas equalized the result from the penalty spot with a few minutes left, T. Radzinevicius' team secured the champion's title and a ticket to the next year's Champions League with a point until the end of the championship with two rounds remaining.
The Lithuanian did not appear on the field, and since joining "Slovan" in the middle of the winter season, the former "Suduva" attacking leader participated in 3 league matches, two of which he started in the starting lineup. However, he has not yet been successful in scoring in the championship after playing 173 minutes.
The first and last time "Slovan" became the Czech champion was four years ago, in the 2001/02 season. This year, the club's triumph was a big surprise, as six main players and the head coach left the team last summer. Despite that, no one was able to stop "Slovan," which has been playing consistently, unlike the long-time country champion "Sparta" club (currently occupying only fourth place in the Prague team).
