What most fans were waiting for has finally happened - the team's coach Rafael Benitez has confirmed that forward Robbie Fowler will stay at Liverpool for at least another year.
The thirty-year-old footballer returned to the legendary team in January of this year after a break of more than four years. Although the Englishman signed a half-year contract and played quite successfully, the "Liverpool" officials had not rushed to offer a longer contract so far.
"This is great news," said R. Benitez. "Robbie played really well and deserves it. He worked hard, scored some important goals for us, and became an important member of the team, so I am happy to have him for next season."
However, the Spaniard also confirmed that the contract will officially be signed most likely next week.
Indeed, "Liverpool" was R. Fowler's first career station back in 1993. After spending nine years in the team, during which he became one of the fans' favorite players, the Englishman played a total of 330 matches and scored 171 goals. However, in 2002, after conflicts with the then "Reds" coach Gerard Houllier, R. Fowler decided to leave for "Leeds."
Despite that, his career in other clubs was not as successful. After spending only two seasons at "Leeds," the footballer moved to "Man City" for 6 million pounds. Becoming the highest-paid player in the Manchester team, R. Fowler suffered from injuries for a long time and was unable to fulfill his full potential. It was due to various injuries that the forward hardly played in the first part of this season.
In the lineup of "Liverpool," the experienced player played 14 matches this year and scored 4 goals.
