The Portuguese Football Federation announced that they will pay the highest ever bonuses to the national team players if they win the 2006 World Cup.

The president of the Portuguese Football Federation, Gilberto Madail, did not disclose the exact amount, but added that it is enough to "buy a good car."

According to unofficial reports, each player would receive 275,000 euros.

Portugal's national team coach, Luiz Felipe Scolari, will announce the names of the twenty-three players representing Portugal in the World Cup on May 15.

In the FIFA world rankings released in April, Portugal shares eighth place with Argentina.
