On Saturday, at the age of 86, one of the most famous Soviet Union football coaches Konstantin Beskov passed away due to illness.

Beskov was the last surviving member of the Moscow team that went on a tour in Britain in 1945 and played against Cardiff City. Later, he turned to a coaching career and became one of the most famous football coaches in the country of all time, many comparing him to the Ukrainian legend, the eternal coach Valeriy Lobanovskyi.

In the 1964 European Championship, Beskov led the team to the final, but was dismissed from the head coach position after losing to the Spanish hosts. He also led his national team to the bronze medal in the 1980 Moscow Olympics and helped the team reach the second stage in the 1982 World Cup in Spain alongside V. Lobanovskyi.

Beskov coached both of the biggest Moscow clubs - Dinamo and Spartak, becoming the champion of the Soviet Union in 1979 and 1987.

Last week, K. Beskov's grandson Vladimir Fedotov was appointed as the interim coach of the Spartak team after the Latvian coach Aleksandrs Starkovs stepped down.
