One of the best safe players on the planet Steven Gerrard stated that he can fill the gap left by forward Wayne Rooney who suffered an injury.
The national team coach Sven Goran Eriksson is currently choosing from several players who could replace the young star upfront and assist Michael Owen in the attack. Although the most likely option is the forward Peter Crouch, there is a possibility that S. Gerrard or Joe Cole from London could also be chosen.
S. Gerrard has already stated multiple times that he is disappointed that he cannot represent the English national team in his favorite position - attacking midfielder. He plays in this same position within the ranks of Liverpool and has been in impressive form throughout the season.
"I've been thinking about it," - said S. Gerrard. - "I've played 40 games for the England team, but only 45 minutes in my favorite position."
"Some people criticize me for not playing as well in the national team as I do at Liverpool, but that's because I don't play where I enjoy the most. If I played as an attacking midfielder, I could try to fill the gap left by W. Rooney."
England will play their first World Cup match on June 10 against Paraguay.
