Former captain of the French national team and one of the best defenders of all time in this country, Marcel Desailly, announced the end of his career as a footballer.
The 37-year-old defender with the French national team has won the 1998 World Cup and the 2000 European Championship. In addition, the player is also a record holder in French football - he has played the most matches for his country, a total of 116.
The player's club career was equally impressive. In the 1992/93 season, he won the UEFA Champions League, and the following year he repeated the same achievement.
M.Desailly admits that he was convinced to continue playing by his colleague Youri Djorkaeff, who also announced his retirement from the sport after the season in the USA.
"I wanted to continue playing, and I had an offer to join Youri Djorkaeff in the New York Red Bulls team, or to play in Australia, but it's not easy to travel with my family," said the French veteran. M.Desailly has been without a club since last November, when he left the Qatari Al-Ittihad club, with which he became a Qatari champion.
The French footballer made the decision to retire from football a week after another French player, Bixente Lizarazu, announced his retirement. Zinedine Zidane will also end his career this summer.
