Portugal's national team defender Jose Castro, who is under 21 years old, will play in the Spanish "La Liga" championship next season. The player officially signed a four-year contract with the Madrid team on Monday.
One of the most promising Portuguese defenders has caught the eye of powerful European clubs for some time now. During the winter transfer window, England's West Ham United club made an offer to Castro's former team, "Academica," but the Portuguese rejected it.
However, now that "Atletico" has made an offer, Castro himself has expressed his desire to play in Spain, so the team had no choice but to agree to release the defender. The financial details of the deal are not currently disclosed.
"This is one of the few chances, and I had to take advantage of it," Castro said. "I always wanted to play in Spain, as in my opinion, 'La Liga' is the most powerful championship in the world."
"Atletico" currently occupies the 10th place with 51 points in the Spanish championship, with only one round left until the end of the season.
