The team is mostly represented by two London clubs - the English champions Chelsea and Tottenham. Three other clubs - Arsenal, Manchester United, and Liverpool - have three players each in the squad.
The biggest surprises in the squad are young players Theo Walcott and Aaron Lennon, who have never represented the England national team before. Meanwhile, players like Darren Bent, Shaun Wright-Phillips, and Jermain Defoe were not invited to represent their country.
17-year-old Walcott will join the attacking force with Owen, Rooney, and Crouch. Meanwhile, 19-year-old Lennon is expected to take the place of the seldom-used Wright-Phillips from Chelsea.
Eriksson must announce the final 24-player squad by May 15. Until then, he must also decide which of the five players on the reserve list will travel to Germany in June.
