The head coach of the London team, Portuguese Jose Mourinho, has been recognized as the best coach of the past English Premier League season.
The award was given to the coach by a special committee made up of football management structures, media, and fan representatives.
Committee member Matt Appleby stated: "Chelsea once again proved to be the dominant force in the Premier League, and most of the credit goes to Mourinho, who once again proved to be one of the most demanding and tactically astute coaches."
Receiving this award for the second consecutive year, the coach stated that he did not expect it.
"It is a great honor for me," Mourinho said to Chelsea TV. "Chelsea has won the championship for the second year in a row, but it is a surprise to me, as throughout the season I was never named the best Premier League coach of the month. We won 9 matches in a row at the start, but I did not receive the award in August or September. We won many matches in a row in December and January, but no prize. So I was surprised to receive the award at the end of the season."
J. Mourinho also stated that he alone would not have achieved all of this. "The award was given to me personally, but it belongs to the whole team. A coach achieves the goal with the team. I did it with Chelsea."
"At the same time, I do not forget about the other people who also worked hard and could have won. Mark Hughes with won the UEFA Cup, Pardew and Jewell with and had a fairly stable season. Of course, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal wanted to win the championship, but they did not. Fulham wanted to get into the Champions League, but they did not make it. Portsmouth, Birmingham, and West Brom wanted to stay in the league, but they got relegated," said the Portuguese strategist.
"So some succeeded in what they wanted, others did not," said the controversial coach. "It is an honor for me and for Chelsea, as it is about the club and its players."
