The sporting director of Madrid, Benito Floro, assured journalists that this summer he does not nurture hopes of acquiring one of the best strikers in the world, Thierry Henry.
Recently recognized as the best player in the English Premier League, the Frenchman has not yet renewed his contract with the London team he has represented since 1999. This has fueled speculation even more that the striker could move to Spain, where he is being particularly actively pursued.
When T. Henry chose "Arsenal", "Real" also tried to acquire him, so B. Floro does not expect the situation to change now: "When he was 21, he didn't think that going to Madrid would be the best choice. I don't think it would be different now."
Nevertheless, it is not ruled out that the "Real" team, planning to acquire a powerful striker this summer, may try to attract Fernando Torres.
"F. Torres is one of the best Spanish footballers,"- said B. Floro. - Besides, this striker still has enough time to improve, so why couldn't he become a player for "Real"?"
It seems that there will be a significant competition for the 22-year-old Spaniard this summer. The desire to have the striker in their ranks has already been expressed by another team, which is expected to soon bid farewell to Ruud van Nistelrooy. It is believed that the English, who have reportedly offered a specific sum of money and a player from the Netherlands, could become one of the most serious contenders to acquire F. Torres, who has a contract valid until 2008.
Among other things, one of the leaders of the "Royal" club also dismissed the possibility that "Real" will face radical changes this summer: "Most of our players have valid contracts and, although it is not ideal, the team is good enough. I don't think more than 5 players will change."
