Having recently defended their English champions title, the London team has taken a big step towards acquiring striker Salomon Kalou. One of the London club officials, Peter Kenyon, has already started negotiations with the player and his agent, and the deal could officially take place next week.
The Dutch team has agreed to a compensation of around £3 million, which the player would receive after successfully finalizing all contract details. The transfer fee is not high because S. Kalou's contract with Feyenoord is valid only until the summer of next year, and then the player born in the Ivory Coast would leave the team without any fee.
However, S. Kalou should stay in Rotterdam for at least another season, as he is unlikely to receive a work permit for England. The 22-year-old striker has not yet represented his country's national team, which complicates all formalities.
S. Kalou was invited to represent the Ivory Coast national team in the World Cup, but he declined the invitation as he hopes to join the Dutch national team led by Marco van Basten. So far, this situation seems complicated, as he has not yet obtained a permit from the Dutch Immigration Ministry, as he has only spent three, not the required five years in the country and has not passed the language and culture tests.
