The head coach of the Brazilian national team, Carlos Alberto Parreira, stated on Thursday that his players would once again defeat the German national team if the two teams were to meet in the World Cup.
"It would be great, really great, if they had the opportunity for revenge, but we would win again, proving that we are the best," C. A. Parreira told reporters.
Four years ago, Brazil defeated the German national team 2-0 in the final of the World Cup held in Japan and South Korea, capturing their fifth championship title. Last year, in the Confederations Cup, the Brazilians again triumphed with a score of 3-2.
C. A. Parreira, who will announce the names of the 23 players who will go to the World Cup on Monday, did not want to talk about the composition of the Brazilian national team, but hinted that there would be no major surprises.
"Everyone knows which players will travel to Germany, and that is a good sign showing that we have been working well in recent years and are consistent," the strategist said.
The Brazilian added that not even a sixth World Cup title would help his homeland solve everyday problems such as poverty, crime, and wealth inequality.
"The World Cup trophy will not change Brazil," said the coach. "Things like education, health, or crime will not change. People will simply be euphoric for a while, but fundamentally nothing will change."
