Finishing the third consecutive "dry" season for Madrid's "Real", after which "Real" awaits new presidential elections, EuroFootball.com visitor Vadimas Trabergas, better known by the nickname "Balompie", decided to introduce Florentino Perez's transfer policy, often simply called the "Galacticos policy".
In 2000, a new era began in the history of Madrid's "Real". President Florentino Perez decided to create a team where only world-class stars would play. Every problem solution had no price - money solved all problems. Over 6 seasons, "Real" spent 323.5 million euros and bought 17 players of nine different nationalities. Before the summer transfer window opens, when the club will start another revolution in the squad, it is possible to summarize all major purchases during F.Perez's tenure.
1. Zinedine Zidane: 72 million euros, the cost of one of the best players in the world. After 5 seasons at Juventus, winning titles with the club and the national team, Z.Zidane decided to change his environment in 2001. He became one of the first purchases of the new transfer policy.
2. Luis Figo: 60 million euros. This player became the first purchase of the "Galacticos era". He moved to Madrid in 2000, at the peak of his career, wearing the colors of the biggest "Real" enemy - "Barcelona". With "Barcelona", he won everything possible in Spain. By buying L.Figo from their biggest rival, "Real" not only acquired a world-class star but also seriously injured their competitor.
3. Ronaldo: 35 million euros. In 2002, "Real" needed a world-class striker who could consistently score goals. Obviously, even without Ronaldo, "Real" would have a player who could score goals, but his place in the lineup was unquestionable. Despite his significant overweight, he still scored 82 goals in 4 seasons.
4. Nicolas Anelka (this player was purchased by Lorenzo Sanzas, not Florentino Perez): 33 million euros. The acquisition of the French "bad boy" was the first major failure for "Real".
And so on...
These players cannot be called successful purchases, so the club will part ways with them in the near future.
What can we expect from the next season? There is talk of M.Diarrá from "Lyon". His price is about 35 million euros. It is rumored that the team will also be supplemented by T.Henry for a tidy sum. "Santiago Bernabeu" stadium is always awaiting the arrival of S.Gerrard and Marcos Senna, but their current clubs are not willing to let go of their leaders for less than 30 million euros.
Before the start of the new season, the "Real" management will need to solve problems, which means they will have to spend huge amounts of money and create panic in the transfer market. As we can see, high results in sports require big decisions, but most importantly, these expenses should be smart and elevate the club rather than bring it down.
