Glasgow club announced that Edinburgh and Scotland national team striker Derek Riordan has signed a pre-contract agreement with Scottish champions and will move to the team from January 2007.
23-year-old D. Riordan, who has been the most productive player for "Hibernian" in the last three years, has a contract with the Edinburgh club until October, and after it expires he will be able to officially become a member of "Celtic", but he will only be able to play from the beginning of the next year.
"Hibernian" several times offered their leader to extend the contract, but he refused. Last summer, the player did not agree to the offer from "Cardiff", and in January of this year, the Edinburgh club rejected the £400,000 offer from Glasgow "Rangers."
D. Riordan became the third player to join "Celtic" as a free agent - the current "Hibernian" captain Gary Caldwell and Scotland national team striker Kenny Miller, who plays for England's "Wolves", have also previously signed pre-contract agreements with the Glasgow team.
