The former World Rally Champion, Spanish Carlos Sainz, and construction magnate Juan Miguel Villaras Miras have joined forces to compete for the position of President of Madrid in the upcoming elections on July 2nd.
"We would like to confirm that after many meetings and consultations in recent days, we have decided to combine our candidacies," the candidates announced on Saturday in the newspaper "AS."
If J.M. Villaras Miras, who was a director at "Real" at the beginning of the last decade under President Ramon Mendoza, were to win the presidency, C. Sainz would be the vice president.
Also likely to run for the presidency at "Real" on July 2nd are former president Lorenzo Sanzas, one of Spain's wealthiest businessmen Juan Palacios, club director Ramon Calderon, lawyer and economist Arturo Baldasano, and F. Perez, who suffered a bitter defeat in 2004.
