8th round: "Kaunas" is increasingly moving further away from the pursuers © EuroFootball.com

On Sunday, the 8th round of the Lithuanian championship took place. "Žalgiris" won a crushing victory in the Vilnius derby, "Atlantas" also secured three points, matches in Panevėžys and Šiauliai ended in draws, while "Kaunas" defeated "Nevėžis" and secured their sixth victory out of as many possible.

One of the most interesting matches of the round took place in Panevėžys, where "Ekranas" hosted Marijampolė's "Sūduva", however, the reigning champions failed to solve their scoring problems and the match ended in a draw. The matches between "Šiauliai" and "Vėtra", who both had the same number of points, also ended in draws, with neither team managing to score.

Once again, the vice-champion FBK "Kaunas" took advantage - this time, the Kaunas team, not playing with their strongest lineup, easily defeated the absolute underdog of the championship, Kėdainiai's "Nevėžis". The leader of Kaunas' attacks, Andrius Velička, scored the first goal for his team in the 13th minute, while Bosnian Edin Pehličius secured the victory with a goal 15 minutes before the end of the match. After this victory, Kaunas' lead over their pursuers increased to 8 points.

After unsuccessful draws with "Nevėžis", Klaipėda's "Atlantas" managed to bounce back, defeating the "Šilutė" team at home. The victory for the coastal team was determined by goals from Maksimo Morozovo and Donato Naviko in the 35th and 37th minutes, while Mindaugas Grigalevičius scored a consolation goal for the visitors at the end of the match. Despite "Atlantas" victory, "Žalgiris" maintained sixth place, after crushing the "Vilnius" team in the capital's derby with goals from Eimantas Poderis and Tadas Labukas.
