Mexico's national team coach Ricardo La Volpe announced the lineup of 23 players who will compete in the upcoming World Cup in Germany in June.
In the team, we will see 37-year-old veteran defender Claudio Suarez playing in his third World Cup, beating out the much younger Joel Huiqui for a spot in the team.
One of the most prominent players, forward Cuauhtemoc Blanco, will not be part of the Mexican national team in this tournament as the coach could not find a spot for him in his tactical schemes. Instead, players born outside Mexico but holding Mexican citizenship like Antonio Naelson, Guillermo Franco, and Rafael Garcia were called up to the team.
After a successful performance in the Confederations Cup, where they defeated the Brazilian national team, Mexico starts their World Cup campaign in Group D along with Portugal, Angola, and Iran.
