In the Spanish championship, Javier Aguirre, the coach of Pamplona's "Osasuna", currently in eighth place, extended his contract with the team for another season.
The 45-year-old Mexican, who led his country's national team at the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan, will lead the Pamplona club until June 2005.
Aguirre had already rejected several offers from "Osasuna" to extend his contract, citing that the club allocates insufficient funds for the acquisition of new players this summer.
The former coach of "Atlante" and "Pachuca" led the team from Pamplona, which lacks bright stars, to 8th place in the Spanish championship, and with three rounds left until the end of the championship, he could help the club earn the right to play in one of the European tournaments next year - either in the UEFA Cup or Intertoto Cup.
