After a rather unsuccessful season, in which they only finished 6th in the French league and failed to achieve their goal of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, the leadership of the French club took decisive action and on Wednesday they dismissed head coach Jacques Santini.

The team led by former French national team and Tottenham coach Jacques Santini started the season successfully, but later their performance deteriorated, and at the end of the season, after five consecutive losses, they dropped to fifth place in the league table.

J. Santini took over at "Auxerre" last June after an unsuccessful stint at Tottenham.

The legendary star of the 1980s team "St Etienne," J. Santini coached the French national team from 2002 to 2004. He took over the "Les Bleus" after the disappointing 2002 World Cup performance, and left the team after a defeat in the quarterfinals of the 2004 European Championship.
