As we announced earlier, Bayern Munich's and the German national team's left back Philipp Lahm injured his hand during a friendly match with an amateur team. On Wednesday, the player underwent surgery and it is still not 100% clear if he will be able to recover in time for the World Cup starting in his homeland in June.

Although the player's hand is not broken, he suffered torn ligaments and surgery was unavoidable. Now, according to the German national team doctors, Lahm will need a few days to be able to run again, and more than two weeks to fully train.

For now, German national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann hopes that Lahm will recover in time to return to the team, so he is not planning to look for a replacement for the young defender anytime soon. It is worth mentioning that national team coaches can still make changes to their squads until June 8th if any of the players get injured.

The German national team will soon depart for a training camp in Geneva, and their first World Cup match will be played on June 9th against Costa Rica.
