At the time when his former teammates are preparing with the German national team for the upcoming World Cup, former striker Karsten Janckeras is over 8000 kilometers away from his homeland and finalizing contract details with the Chinese team "Shanghai Shenhua."
Last season, the tall and intimidating striker spent the entire season at the club, but after dropping out of the Bundesliga, he decided to look for another team to finish his career.
"I decided to move to China because I wanted to try something new," said the 31-year-old striker. "A few European clubs offered me contracts for the upcoming season, but I decided to accept the offer from the Asian team."
Throughout his career, Janckeras, representing Munich's "Bayern" club, won the German Bundesliga four times and once became the champion of the UEFA Champions League. In 2002, the player moved to the Italian team "Udinese," but did not fit in there and returned to Germany after two years, signing a contract with "Kaiserslautern."
Janckeras has played 33 matches for the German national team, scoring 10 goals. The last time the striker represented his country's national team was during the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea.
The "Shenhua" team finished second in last season's Chinese league, but this year they have been playing relatively poorly and hope that Janckeras will help the team recover and bring some European playing style characteristics to the team.
