As confirmed on Tuesday by Real Madrid, Javier Aguirre will lead the club from next season, having helped Pamplona's "Osasuna" finish in a very high fourth place in the Spanish championship this year and secure a spot in the UEFA Champions League tournament.
The 48-year-old Mexican, who will replace Pepe Murcia at the helm of the Madrid team, will be officially presented at a press conference on Wednesday.
J. Aguirre has led "Osasuna" for the past three years and has taken the modest budget team to the 2005 King's Cup final and this year to fourth place in the Spanish championship.
J. Aguirre, who previously coached the Mexican national team, is known for his ability to work with "what he has" and motivate players.
Enrique Cerezo, president of "Atletico", which just finished the season in tenth place, stated that Aguirre's arrival to the team is just the beginning of a major reorganization. The first change in the team was Toni Munoz stepping down from his role as sports director last week.
