Argentine national team captain Juan Pablo Sorin, speaking with journalists on Tuesday, stated that Argentina must learn from the failure experienced in the 2002 World Cup, when they went to the tournament as favorites but were eliminated in the first stage.
"Every World Cup is different, but it is important to take everything calmly, learn from the 2002 tournament, and correct mistakes," Sorin told journalists.
It is worth mentioning that sixteen out of the 23 members of the Argentine national team were former pupils of current national team coach Jose Pekerman when he was in charge of the country's U-20 team, which won the World Youth Championships in 1995, 1997, and 2001.
"Most of us were champions when we were young," continued Villarreal defender. "We know what it means to be champions, and we hope to repeat those successful championships in Qatar, Malaysia, and Buenos Aires."
"Pekerman taught me a lot - he gave me the opportunity to represent Argentina when I was only 17," expressed gratitude defender Nicolas Burdisso. "And now I have the opportunity to play in the World Cup."
It is worth noting that Argentina will begin the World Cup in Group C, where they will face Ivory Coast, Serbia and Montenegro, and the Netherlands.
