As officially announced on Thursday, London's Robert Pires will represent the "Yellow Submarines" club in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals for the next two seasons.
"I am very happy," the Frenchman was quoted by the Spanish club's website. "I hope I can help the club improve on its excellent achievements of the past two years."
"Villarreal" announced that the official presentation of R. Pires will take place on July 2 or 3.
The 32-year-old R. Pires' contract with London's "Arsenal" was supposed to expire this June, but he was offered a one-year extension. It is believed that the Frenchman was not satisfied with just a one-year term.
R. Pires arrived at "Arsenal" in 2000, and "Marseille" received 6 million pounds sterling at that time.
