In the recently ended Scottish championship, led by Lithuanian Valdas Ivanauskas, "Hearts" won second place and earned the right to play in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers. In preparation for this prestigious European club tournament, the winners of the Scottish Cup can come to Lithuania to play friendly matches.
"This year, 'Atlantas' will not participate in any UEFA tournament, so we want football fans in Klaipėda to be able to watch at least friendly international matches. That's why we are negotiating with 'Hearts'," said R. Jonaitis, president of the Klaipėda county and city football federation to "Vakarų ekspresas."
The main sponsor of Klaipėda's "Atlantas" is the subsidiary company "Ūkio banko lizingas" of Vladimir Romanov's controlled "Ūkio bankas." The Scottish club also belongs to V. Romanov, who also owns multiple Lithuanian champions FBK "Kaunas" and Minsk "MTZ-Ripo" clubs in Belarus. "Ūkio banko lizingas" also supports "Šilutė."
It is speculated that "Hearts" could play friendly matches not only with several "A Lyga" clubs associated with V. Romanov, but also with "MTZ-Ripo."
