At a press conference at the English Embassy in Berlin, the Chief Constable of Staffordshire, David Swift, announced that the country's police will confiscate the passports of 3500 of the most aggressive British football hooligans, thus preventing them from traveling to Germany to watch the World Cup.
These football hooligans will also be required to regularly report to the police during the championship, to ensure that they do not intend to travel to Germany illegally.
Chief Police Officer D. Swift, who has been fighting against football hooligans for some time, also stated that England will send a group of specially trained officers to Germany to assist their German colleagues in maintaining order during the championship.
In this way, England aims to ensure that similar incidents to those in Marseille during the 1998 tournament do not happen again. English hooligans are also responsible for disturbances in Charleroi during the 2000 European Championship.
Andy Battson, responsible for communications and relations at the country's embassy in Berlin, stated that it is estimated that about 100,000 English football enthusiasts will travel to Germany in total.
