One of the most experienced players of the Czech national team, defender Vladimir Šmiceras, will not participate in the upcoming World Championship starting next week. This was confirmed by the player himself on Thursday.
"This morning we consulted with doctors and decided that it is not possible to wait any longer for the coach, team friends, or myself," said the Czech. "There are only ten days left until the first match, and I can't even train."
The 33-year-old defender representing Bordeaux has not fully recovered from a right Achilles tendon injury suffered in February. Although the player trained with his team friends in the national team, he did not play in friendly matches against Costa Rica on Tuesday.
Although the Czech national team coach Karel Brueckner has not yet announced who will replace V. Šmiceras in Germany, it is speculated that the coach will choose Libor Sionko, representing Glasgow Rangers. K. Brueckner himself invited more players to train with the national team so that they could replace the injured if necessary.
Another alternative for the veteran is Tomáš Sivok, representing Sparta Prague.
The first World Championship match against the US national team will be played by the Czech Republic on June 12. Italy and Ghana will also play in the same group.
