London coach Arsene Wenger hopes that this season the Spanish super-club will fully transfer goalkeeper Giovanni Van Bronckhorst to the Catalan club in the summer.
The 29-year-old Dutchman has been playing in the Barcelona club since the beginning of the season and occupies the position of left-back. "Barcelona" coach Dutchman Frank Rijkaard regularly allows many of his compatriots to play in the club: Patrick Kluivert, Philip Cocu, Van Bronckhorst, Edgar Davids, and Marc Overmars.
Arsenal hopes to receive about 7.5 million pounds sterling (about 39 million litas) for the sale of the Dutchman, as they paid a similar amount to Glasgow "Rangers" three years ago.
The coach of the London team said on the club's website: "He will most likely stay in Barcelona. Nothing has been agreed yet, but that is the wish of both "Barcelona" and Giovanni himself. In addition, Ashley Cole and Gael Clichy play well in his position in the team."
The arrival of the 18-year-old Frenchman Clichy at "Arsenal" strengthened the team's defense and gave Wenger more freedom in preparing tactical schemes.
Wenger also hopes to sell forward Francis Jeffers in the summer, who is currently on loan to London's "Everton" team this season. The Frenchman would also be willing to consider all offers for goalkeeper Jermaine Pennant, who represents "Leeds" this season.
In the summer, the contracts of Martin Keown, Kanu, and Sylvain Wiltord will expire, and they will most likely leave the team, while Dutchman Dennis Bergkamp will most likely be offered an extension for the last year.
Other players who do not get much playtime will likely be loaned out to other teams. Wenger would very much like to give playing experience to promising goalkeeper David Bentley.
